Korean pop band BTS has smashed records again! Their brand new single “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey has become the most viewed YouTube video in the first 24 hours of its release. The song was released as the lead single for their new album “Map of the soul: Persona”. YouTube has also affirmed that the video has smashed the record for ascending to the 100 million views mark by becoming the fastest video to do so.
The K-pop band’s music video shot up to breaking three records in total – ‘Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours’, ‘most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours’ and ‘most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-Pop group’. With these records in their kitty, BTS has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The jazzy music video showing the seven-member boy band bringing in their enthusiasm and their much-talked-about dancing skills to life brought in 74.6 million views within a day of release on YouTube. As of today, the music video has been watched 175 million times by fans all over the world.
“Yes, we’re still running the numbers but we can confirm that Boy With Luv (ft. Halsey) is now ‘officially’ the most-viewed 24-hour debut in YouTube history!” declared YouTube through its Twitter handle. “Boy With Luv” took away the record from another K-Pop group called BLACKPINK. The girl group had just released their song “Kill This Love” on 4th April which garnered 56.7 million views within 24 hours of release.
“Boy With Luv” as a song as well as a music video has already set the pace to become a huge hit for both the band and American singer Halsey. It is being believed that it may go on to become BTS’ biggest success on the Billboard Hot 100 till date. The album “Map of the soul: Persona” has already received pre-orders for 3 million copies according to Big Hit Entertainment, the company managing the band.
BTS, which was formed by Big Hit was already a sensation in South Korea but they tasted international success some 3 years earlier and there has been no stopping for the band since then. The Bangtan Boys have broken records before with their album “Love Yourself: Tear” when it became the first Korean album to grab the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200. They’re also the first Korean band to have been recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with a platinum single & a gold album.
