YouTuber InterviewsCreating videos for YouTube – How it has changed my life

There was a time in my life when I could not even dream that a hobby can help me earn some extra bucks and make somewhat of a living from it! But then YouTube happened and it changed my life!

Here’s how it all started:

I always had a passion for style and clothes. Back in those days, my friends and I used to regularly find interesting locations and head there for photo shoots. This eventually led to the idea that I could use these excursions as content for YouTube videos!

So, one fine day in the summer of 2008, I started my YouTube channel. The idea was that the channel would feature videos of me and my friends trying different fashion looks in fun locations. Besides making these videos for my channel, I also started writing blogs. But it was still just for fun. I never thought that this could be a career opportunity!

But things started happening soon – I started making a decent amount of money from my channel, got to meet some of my subscribers in person and even partnered with some major lifestyle brands for some of my videos.

I have around 66 thousand plus subscribers for my channel as of today, but this didn’t happen in a short time! It took me almost 7 years to get here! A lot of people ask me the recipe for success on YouTube, but it’s a hard question to answer. The secret to success can be different for different creators. However for me, it was the consistency of uploading videos and keeping the video content relevant for my subscribers. I have uploaded 339 videos so far in 9 years and that is almost a video every week!

However, blindly uploading videos every week is not advisable at all! You need to understand the taste of your audience and create content accordingly. Keeping a close eye on YouTube analytics and using third party tools like Vidooly can help you in this regard. For instance, I keep a close track of the country and the age group of my viewers. This helps me ensure that the fashion tips in my videos are tailored accordingly.

Why YouTube is important for me

When I first began making videos, I was really shy and awkward. I found it very uncomfortable to talk in front of a camera in a room, all by myself. If my family members were around, it would make me lose my nerves even more! However, time teaches you many things doesn’t it? Slowly but surely, as I started realizing that the more natural and comfortable I am in front of the camera, my subscribers will get to know me better and better.

I grew confident with every video and started to love the creativity and the freedom of expression that it offers. Before I knew it, what started off just as a hobby, had transformed into something that I really cared about.

Dealing with negative comments – They hate us cause they ain’t us

Not everyone who watches my videos leaves nice comments. Some viewers can be very mean and nasty. But that doesn’t bog me down at all! It’s actually kind of funny because it just implies that the hater must have spent enough time watching my video go through the hassle of making that comment! It at least means that they paid attention to what I was saying or doing in the video.

I used to get upset about hateful comments in my early YouTube days. But now, I just take them in my stride and move on. You have no control over what people say anyway!

So back to the question – What is the recipe for success on YouTube? I would say:

  1. Upload consistently to keep the fans interested
  2. Use actionable analytics data to understand your audience better
  3. Keep your spirits up and stop worrying about haters and their comments

Happy YouTubing and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel for fashion tips.
