YouTube has been the go-to platform for thousands of content creators in India by far. But with the introduction of “Facebook Watch,” many brands and independent creators are diverging towards creating more native content than they were before. This gargantuan shift is largely attributed to the increase in Facebook’s video share by 75% of every user-uploaded video content.

At present, Facebook’s video platform generates more than 8 billion video views per day and have 135% greater organic reach than images or photos posts. Following some crucial updates, Facebook has changed its ambition from becoming the most populated social media platform in the history of the Internet to developing new ways to advertise and on its videos.

In order to put effective social media strategies in place, we need to look at the data.

We at Vidooly came up with a comprehensive report on the Facebook video landscape in India for every month of 2017. The report has an analysis of the top Facebook Pages from India that focus on online video.

Methodology

The ranking is based on the number of views clocked only for the respective month.

  • Only India based Facebook pages are taken into consideration.
  • Indian food recipe related videos are all considered under the Food category.
  • The closest relevant category is picked for pages that upload different kinds of videos.
  • The popular page ranking for each category is based only on pages that upload videos consistently. There might be other pages that have more ‘Page Likes’ than the ones mentioned in the ranking, but they might not focus as much on video.
  • There is a slight chance that we might have missed some pages that are popular but do not upload videos consistently.
Categorization –

We have categorized all the pages into 8 major genres – Food, Lifestyle, New age Entertainment, Traditional Entertainment, New age – News, Traditional News, Independent creators, and Sports Creators.

  • Fashion & lifestyle-related Facebook pages are included in Health & Lifestyle; whereas, Food-recipe content related pages are placed separately as mentioned above.      [ NOTE: Facebook pages related to brands are not included ]
  • New age Entertainment brands are digital-first brands like ScoopWhoop, Being Indian, AIB etc. Traditional Entertainment brands cover movie production houses, music labels, TV channels, and Print newspapers.
  • Those who make videos like comedy sketches, vlogs, tutorials etc., fall under the Independent Creators category. Do note that we have not included popular singers, sportspersons and movie stars in this list.

SAMPLE INSIGHTS – OCTOBER

  • In the Food and travel category on Facebook, Curly Tales is in the sixth position.
  • For Fashion and lifestyle facebook pages, POPxo is performing really well with three of their Facebook channels on the list of top 10 Fashion content creators.
  • Filter copy is doing really well as they are ahead of BuzzFeed with more than 71 million video views.
  • In the traditional entertainment, Vijay Television still leads all the T.V channels on Facebook with more than 151 million views.
  • ScoopWhoop News leads the most viewed new age news Facebook pages with more than 30 million views.
  • ABP News is leading the traditional news channel’s Facebook pages which generated more views than Dainik Bhaskar, and Aaj Tak.
  • BB Ki Vines is not in the top 10 independent content creators for the first time.
