Channel video views and well-optimized metadata are essential growth factors for any creator. As we all know metadata is mostly what will make a YouTube user to click and view your video. It is cumulative of title, descriptions, thumbnails, and tags used for the video. If used correctly, they will work in tandem to get you the maximum YouTube views possible. However, paying attention to your watch-time metric, your subscriber growth, and other performance indicators are equally important.

For our industry benchmarking report, we examined nine most popular YouTube categories in India and calculated the average view count for videos within each of them for each category. As per our analysis, Entertainment is the category that generated the most average views, whilst People & Blogs get the lowest average amount of views per video in India. Below is the list of individual category.

ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORY

Here, “Entertainment” category is a concoction of films and comedy categories on YouTube India. After the evolution of short films, skits, prank videos, web series, and films in India; entertainment category generated the highest viewership per video in India.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE ENTERTAINMENT CATEGORY

In this category, Sarrainodu is the most viewed video with more than 177 million views, and upon Sarrainodu’s digital premiere, it became the highest viewed and liked Indian film on YouTube. This is because Telugu dubbed movies are one of the most viewed regional videos on YouTube India.

HOW-TO & STYLE CATEGORY

The How-to and Style category of YouTube India covers a range of content from beauty haul videos, make-up tutorials, Ayurvedic beauty remedies and everything in-between.  Anaysa, Shruti Arjun Anand, Pooja Luthra, and Ayurved Samadhan are one of the most viewed content creators related to beauty on YouTube India.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE HOW-TO & STYLE CATEGORY

With more than 10K comments, half a million likes and 49 million views “How to get clear, glowing spotless skin” is the most viewed video in How-to & Style category in India.

PETS & ANIMALS CATEGORY

This category is still evolving when we talk about content explicitly created to pets. India is the only place where you can find a rhino, tiger and a lion in the same country. However, still, no Indian YouTube channel can give stiff competition to international YouTube channels like brave wilderness, or Animal Planet.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE PETS & ANIMALS CATEGORY

The era of cute cat’s videos is not over yet, but now people are reaching for videos that connect with them on an emotional level.  “The dog who grew a new face – Kalu’s astounding recovery” generated more than 31 million views and is the most viewed video in the Pets & Animals category.

SCIENCE & TECH CATEGORY

Unboxing and tech reviews are one of the most viewed videos on YouTube India. YouTube channels like TECHNICAL GURUJI, GEEKYRANJIT, and PRO HACKER are generating millions of views every month.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE SCIENCE & TECH CATEGORY

The most-watched video on YouTube belonged to Samsung India Services. The spot, “We’ll Take Care of You Wherever You Are,” generated 150.3 million views.

AUTOS & VEHICLES CATEGORY

Indian YouTube channels like Powerdrift, Autocar India, Motoroctane, and Motorbeam are revolutionizing Autos & Vehicles content. Their content comprises anything you can think of that has to do with vehicles, car reviews, videos about cars, driving, vehicle parts, and opinions about different types of vehicles.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE AUTOS & VEHICLES CATEGORY

Hero Passion is one of the bestselling bikes in India. “Presenting New Hero Passion 2018” Ad showcases why we all love to pose on the bike we like. This new upgrade of this bike makes people watch it for more than 41 million times.

AUTOS AND VEHICLES: AVERAGE YOUTUBE VIEWS PER VIDEO = 6.02K

EDUCATION CATEGORY:

On YouTube, most of the kids YouTube channels are associated with Education category as YouTube didn’t allocate a separate category to distinguish content viewed by kids below the age of 9. But, there are YouTube channels like ZEEQ INDIA, UNACADEMY, BYJU’S among others who are generating millions of views under “Education” category.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE EDUCATION CATEGORY:

ChuChu TV is the most subscribed education channel in the whole YouTube ecosystem. With more than 1.4 billion views, “Johny Johny Yes Papa” is making sure that every child is a master in Nursery Rhymes.

GAMING CATEGORY:

Rohan Trehan, Gamezone, and Mkn P are among top Indian gaming channels in India. We cannot compare Indian gaming community with international YouTube channels yet. But, gaming formats like “Let’s Plays” videos, walkthroughs (instructional gameplay and commentary), and reviews are still favorite among Indian viewers.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE GAMING CATEGORY

Due to its affordable price, Google Cardboard is a hit in India. “Cmoar Roller Coaster VR Google Cardboard 3D SBS” generated more than 17 million viewers who immersed themselves in this thrilling roller coaster ride.

GAMING: AVERAGE YOUTUBE VIEWS PER VIDEO = 2.98K

TRAVEL & EVENTS CATEGORY:

YouTube data shows that travelers are spending more time watching online videos than ever before, with views of travel-related content up 118% year over year (YoY). Still, this is the only category on YouTube that begs attention from content creators from India.

MOST POPULAR VIDEO IN THE TRAVEL & EVENTS CATEGORY

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh and actress Alia Bhatt have done six commercials for Make My Trip so far, and all of them have gone viral. The video “MakeMyTrip International” generated more than 55 million video views. Want to test if your friend is from Delhi, then do what the ad says.

India is known for its symbiotic mixture of Music and Dance. “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal” is the proof of that. With more than 206 million views in just one year, it is the most viewed video in the People & Blogs category.
