YouTube’s monthly user base in India has reached 225 million as it completes 10 years of presence in our country. India has been on YouTube’s radar for the past two years as we have risen as the most engaged market in the world for the video-sharing platform.

It’s interesting to note that currently, a whopping 460 Indian YouTube channels have crossed the 1-million subscriber mark, as against just 2 channels two years ago. 51 more are lined up to join the club soon as they have reached the 900k subscriber count.

At Vidooly, recognizing the huge potential of India as a market, we have released a YouTube annual report that gives a comprehensive view of the top Indian YouTube channels in 2018. The report takes into account the views and subscribers of 2900 Indian YouTube channels across 18 different content categories and genres.

All those advertisers and marketers who want to refine their targeting and influencer campaign strategies can turn to the YouTube annual report for valuable insights. Content creators can benefit from the report by getting an overview of where their competitors stand as against them.

Let’s find out the highlights of the YouTube annual report according to sub-sections.

YouTube categories as per subscribers in 2018

Bollywood music is voraciously consumed by the Indian audience! That’s evident from Vidooly’s research as Music emerged as the top category on YouTube with 304.67 million subscribers and 126.02 billion views gained in the year 2018 alone. It doesn’t come as a surprise that when we did a roundup of top 10 YouTube channels of 2018, 7 of them were music channels.

Top 15 YouTube channels in every category 2018

Across all 18 categories, we’ve pulled out a list of top 15 YouTube channels as per the number of subscribers gained in 2018. We’ve found useful insights like Technical Guruji is still the reigning king of the science and technology category gaining the highest number of subscribers in 2018.

We all know how T-Series was in the spotlight the whole year as it was competing to gain the throne of the ‘most subscribed YouTube channel in the world’. It’s not rocket science that it topped the list of the 60 most subscribed channels on YouTube in 2018 compiled in the report.

YouTube categories as per viewership in 2018

Music again became the most viewed category in 2018 with T-Series contributing 23% to the overall viewership of the entire category as a whole. An interesting insight to note was that News & Politics generated the 4th highest viewership in India defeating Kids and Comedy channels, as per the YouTube annual report.

Top 10 YouTube Channels In Every Category In 2018

This section does not just have the top 10 YouTube channels under all 18 categories, but also the month-on-month viewership for all the entire year. For instance, the top Sports Tak, I Love Cricket, Star Sports and SPNSportsIndia are the top 4 YouTube channels in the Sports category.

Wow! I didn’t know India was growing so fast in terms of YouTube presence and engagement. I am sure the 51 channels on the edge will also soon have 1 million+ subscribers.
