After developing long-haul undersea fiber optic cabling service in Asian countries like Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan; Google’s head “Sundar Pichai” has promised India for free Hi-Speed internet by providing hotspots at more than 400 rail stations in partnership with RailTel and Indian Railways.

Today, at Google for India event, the company announced a new YouTube app called YouTube Go. This newly introduced app is made specifically for withstanding Indian Internet speed.

According to Akamai Reports, the average Indian speed is 2.5 Mbps. This means that more than a fifth of the Internet population now has a connection with 2.5 Mbps speed or less. Comparing this with other nations, India stands at the rank #114 in terms of internet speeds.

YouTube Offline: Headspin

Keeping this in mind, YouTube introduced India’s first offline app with a massive yet successful ad campaign – “YouTube Offline: Headspin” which generated more than 6 million YouTube views in 15 days.

John Harding, Vice President of Engineering at YouTube, said of the offline feature, “In a country like India, the future of the Internet is mobile… By launching this offline experience on YouTube in India today, we hope to help people move past the challenges of data connection, speed and cost to enjoy a smooth, buffer-free version of YouTube.” (Source – gadgets.ndtv.)

But, still, their “Offline App” failed on generating more Indian visitors like in U.S or Canada. Blame this on the cost of the spectrum or lack of options, India’s internet speed is never going up. Reliance JIO may have an alternative option, but with more than 52 crore call failures due to interconnection, it’s not looking as promising as it was advertised to be.

Introducing NEW YouTube GO – Mazze udao, data nahin

To tackle all the slow connection problems they faced previously, Google has announced a new app called YouTube GO. As this app will have the ability to work effectively when the internet connection is more limited; Indians will have the opportunity to test the beta version before any other countries.

YouTube Go manages the slow or lack or internet connection as its inbuilt on Smart Offline Feature which automatically downloads videos to a smartphone overnight so that they can be watched anywhere without a data connection.

According to YouTube product management VP Johanna Wright, “YouTube Go is a brand new app to help the next generation of users share and enjoy videos.”

A YouTube Mobile user spends 40 minutes on an average session, up more than 50% year-over-year. India is the second biggest market for global media companies like YouTube in terms of content curation fo a video platform. But, with this, any smartphone app demands better internet connectivity in order to achieve success.  Thus, with YouTube kneeling back and accepting India’s poor internet speed rates, they had to create an app that can work in these conditions.

Following are the features available in this new YouTube GO.

  • Control your data with an option to download videos in lower quality.
  • We Indians always wait for any YouTube video to buffer. But, with YouTube GO, a user can save and watch videos without buffering it.
  • Without draining any data, the user will be able to share YouTube videos with nearby friends and family.

If you are excited enough by now, then CLICK HERE to sign up now. YouTube will notify you when the app is ready to use.
