Love @gypsetgoddess’s splits as much as we do? We got the details on her journey to this inspiring pose: “I’ve been stretching and practicing the splits for about as long as I can remember. First in dance classes, then gymnastics, then rhythmic gymnastics, and finally in yoga classes as an adult. 💃🏼
They’ve had different meaning for me as I’ve moved through different stages of my life. As a kid, I took them for granted, as something I had always been and would always be able to do. As an elite rhythmic gymnast, they became a competition with myself to see how far over-split I could bring my legs. 🙀
They were largely forgotten once I moved on from rhythmic gymnastics, until I found yoga. 😬
When I began practicing yoga, I realized for the first time in my life, I couldn’t do the splits. Suddenly the splits became a symbol of both my more youthful teenage years, and how I had let my flexibility go.
It took me about a year of stretching to get them back, and I have yin yoga to thank for that. 🙏🏻
If my relationship to the splits has been anything, it’s been a journey. 🙌🏻
