  • There’s no such thing as the one size fits all magic back pain cure but hyperextensions come pretty close!  If you struggle with lower back pain then I totally recommend that you give them a try. Don’t do them when you’ve got a flare up though; do a single easy set (i.e. not to failure) after every workout when things have calmed down and you’ll probably find that your back pain comes on less frequently and is less severe when it does happen.

  • I started doing hex bar deadlifts after listening to coach Ryan Flaherty on the Tim Ferris show talk about how well this exercise correlates to sprint speed.  I like doing them because they’re kind of like a squat-deadlift hybrid: pulling the weight on either side of your leg, as opposed to the front of the shins, puts a little less strain on your lower back and a little more on your legs.
