  • I hope you enjoy this shirt beach yoga demo on the famous grace bag beach in Turks and Caicos Islands. This water is pure heaven. I love the flat Caribbean Sea, with endless rolling waves that seem to lead to infinity.

  • The best attitude that I can cultivate to live life well is one with a peaceful heart. Whenever I am too attached to any goal to any particular direction, it messes me up. Even if it’s just that I want to do a really good job, even that desire plays with my headspace. It’s like when I’m just having fun, when I’m earnestly just interested in seeing what wants to happen, then all things are possible. But as soon as I want to “do” it, then there’s a layer of tension that interferes with the flow of energy. This is perhaps a simple illustration of the beauty of non-attachment. If you you’re able to simply explore the moment without any agenda, then you’re spontaneous and free. But there’s a balance. The trick for me is actually to find non-attachment amidst great focus and effort. To try with all your heart and all your soul, but to try with an attitude or joy and playfulness—this is magic to me.

  • Meditation is by far the single most effective tool for emotional balance. Without it, I’d be lost. It’s through my daily sitting practice that I’ve faced so many of my darkest demons and learned some of deepest lessons. It’s meditation that helped me learn the true meaning of non-attachment and surrender.
_
Here are some tools that help me—
1. You don’t need to sit for hours to get benefit. As little as five minutes a day can make a substantial difference in the quality of your mind.
2. The purpose of meditation is not to become awesome at meditation, the purpose is live a better life.
3. The amount of thoughts is overwhelming. Once you learn not to believe your thoughts or accept them as true, there’s so much more freedom and space in the mind.
4. Equanimity—the calm, quiet space of pure observation was easiest for me to learn in sitting practice. I could then take it into my asana practice and more importantly into my life.
5. Like all spiritual practice, start where you are. No need to wait for that one day when.
6. Everyone can meditate! You’re not too old or too young to start. It’s not against any religion. You don’t need to sit on the floor, you can sit on a chair or whatever you’re comfortable with. The type of meditation I learned is free for all and entirely donation based. Really, everyone is welcome on the meditation cushion.
7. You don’t need a beautiful place to sit. Any place will do, whether a closet or a bathroom, all you need is a place where you can be alone for five minutes without being disturbed.
_
I hope this beautiful time lapse meditation inspires to sit today. May you be peaceful, be happy and be joyful.

  • Paradise found. Good morning from the Turks and Caicos. This water is pure heaven. I love the flat Caribbean Sea, with endless rolling waves that seem to lead to infinity.

I also love forward bends. They are such an important part of the practice, both physically and spiritually. On the level of the body, forward bends bring health to the digestive system, encourage inner cleansing and help relieve back pain. On a spiritual level, forward bends represent introspection and a turning of the mind to the quiet space within. I was not naturally good at forward bends. The first time I tried to touch my toes I could not reach. What you see here is the result of many years of practice. I hope you stay inspired to practice every day.

  • And this is just for fun 😊

It was a heavenly day at the beach today. Tim was napping and I popped down to the perfect sand for a quick handstand. Right now, I am feeling just so blessed to call this sunny tropical beach town my home. I believe in counting your blessings and celebrating every ounce of joy that life gives you. What are you counting as a blessing today? 🙏

  • It’s practice, not perfection or performance. This is from the advanced Ashtanga Yoga series. I’ve been working on this asana as part of my daily practice for awhile. It’s starting to make a little more sense.

  • Practice. Not performance. Just practice. No trick, just slow, steady perseverance and deep inner awareness. And there is the magic of the breath, always the breath.
_
Raw, unedited, imperfect, just the work. There is something so good about sharing the reality of practice, without any curated snapshot highlight moment. It just is what it is. And this today was practice for me. Some days are better than others. Some sides are better than others. But either way, it’s just practice.
_
Asana is an amazing tool of spiritual transformation, but it is just that, a tool. Don’t get caught up in thinking that goal is shape and form. Use this powerful gift to change your life. And always, practice every day. It can change your whole world.

If you think I just pop up into handstand effortlessly on my first try, watch this video to see how many tries before I finally made it up. Don’t feel bad about yourself if it doesn’t happen on the first or the first thousand tries. It’s practice and all that matters is that you try. If you see a perfect picture it’s often a snapshot into an imperfect reality. Struggle and understanding the reality of it are essential elements of learning in the field of yoga. So, the next time you find yourself comparing your achievements or process to someone else, remember to be kind and gentle with yourself. Instead of seeing your own failure in someone else’s success look for their hard work and ceaseless dedication and let it inspire to practice more. I hope seeing my struggle here helps keep it real. I’m not some alien yoga deity who did everything with little practice. I’m just a girl who has been practicing for a long time. I was never a dancer, never a gymnast, never on a sports team. Whatever strength and grace you see in me is just your own potential reflected back. The magic secret is simple, just keep practicing.
