  • Just want to give you a heads up that today, December 14, I will NOT be hosting a LIVE video chat.

The reason for this is because I'm in Vancouver, BC this weekend shooting a new YouTube video series with one of my personal mentors. This man has really helped me to take my fitness coaching business to the next level this past year. So you can look forward to a new video series coming to the Total Fitness Bodybuilding YouTube channel soon.

But again, just a quick reminder that there will NOT be a live video chat today. However, we'll resume things as normal next Friday.

      

  • Which is better Cardio vs. Weight Training? Why not do both? Combining cardio AND weights in an alternate day fashion is a very complementary way to exercise for building muscle and losing fat.

There are no shortage of debates arguing back and forth over cardio vs. weights for building a lean ripped body. And there is no "One Size Fits All" answer...

How you go about it really depends on YOU... your goals, your body type, your fitness level, your schedule, etc. 

What works for one person may or may not work for you. But there are some general training strategies that work pretty well for most guys.

If you want to build muscle AND lose bodyfat AND you have a busy schedule... 

Then this is what I recommend (and what I do personally):

Alternate Doing Cardio One Day & Weight Training The Next Day.

By only doing one form of exercise per workout (i.e. cardio or weights) you'll keep your workouts shorter, 1 hour tops.

This strategy works with your body's natural recovery because during the weight training days you are placing a lot of stress on the muscles and central nervous system. You are literally breaking your body down in order to give it a reason to grow back bigger and stronger.

Then during the cardio days you are providing a gentle form of exercise that's easier on your muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments. The cardio will circulate blood flow throughout your muscles and provide them with an "Active Recovery" workout. While improving your aerobic fitness and burning bodyfat in the process.

Alternating back and forth between weight training and cardio training like this will allow you to reap the physical and mental benefits of daily exercise, while still getting adequate rest and recovery for muscle growth.

I like to refer to it as YIN and YANG training where you get the best of both worlds with your workout program.

  • 2 shoulder mobility exercises that you should do at the start of every gym session to increase your range of motion, flexibility and improve stability for your workout.

I always start my workouts with shoulder mobility exercises to warm up the entire shoulder complex, increase flexibility, and help reduce risk of injury.

In this video you'll see a couple new moves that I've added to add to my repertoire. I had the privilege to workout with Eric Bach from Bach Performance https://www.bachperformance.com and he showed me 2 killer exercise for the shoulders.

One is a flexibility exercise that will help increase your range of motion for doing shoulder exercises like the overhead press.

The other is a good exercise for developing strength and stability throughout the shoulders and your entire core, abs, obliques, and lower back.

The best thing is that these 2 moves will literally only take a couple minutes to perform, but they'll set you up for a productive training session.
