When I was younger, I went to the circus and I fell in love with the way the trapeze artists moved. I remember thinking to myself DAMN I want to be like that when I grow up! All I ever thought about when I was younger was being a trapeze artist (I know it sounds so silly!), and then somehow this morphed into dreaming of being a ballerina 😂😂 I had this little box and I’d keep all my ballerina items in it - I got this chiffon material in it for my “tutu” and I got a pair of ballet flats and was over the moon! I would also throw on these classical music tapes and dance around the house too 😂😂. . I was never able to attend any dance classes when I was younger. I actually took one class when I was 12 but a lot of the girls were really mean at that point because I was a beginner and I felt really uncomfortable and out of place so I just never really pursued it after that. . Throughout my high school years, I would always dance in the occasional concerts and events if the opportunity presented itself but still, I didn’t feel like my heart was in it. I think I always craved some type of movement for my body. . Fast forward to all these years later - it literally took me more than 20 years to find that movement within myself and it feels SO GOOD! It doesn’t matter if I’m not swinging from a trapeze or acting the part of the Black Swan, but the way that I’m expressing myself now, is a priceless feeling. . What were some of your dreams/goals growing up? 💃🏽

Last night I got a really mean message from someone on IG and it was in response to me not wanting to go on a date with him or just not being interested in him. I just found it incredibly disrespectful and uncalled for. It’s just sad that we as women, often feel this fear of saying No when someone is approaching us with advances that make us feel uncomfortable, because we’re so afraid that rejecting someone will result in them taking it out on us either verbally or physically. . I always get scared when someone is continuously making advances and my first response is always the uncomfortable laugh and the polite nod and walk away but deep down I’m still scared that they take it badly and then it spirals from there. I don’t think that this is fair to any of us. I don’t know how we can go about changing this culture or ensuring that kids are taught from young how to respect women but I really think that there needs to be a change. . This is my advice as of now. 1⃣Don’t live in fear and don’t be afraid to say No or to reject someones advances 2️⃣Be polite but assertive in your rejection 3️⃣If someone is repeatedly making you feel uncomfortable, walk away or stay away and block them on social media if that’s the case 4️⃣Teach kids from young to be respectful and to understand/respect rejection and if you know people who engage in this behaviour, you can politely talk to them and encourage them to stop reacting this way! 5️⃣Don’t let the negative words or backlash get to you. Be brave and strong and know that their words are a reflection of themselves. . Please feel free to add your thoughts or share your stories in the comments below! I’d love to hear if you’ve experienced this, how did you feel/react and what you think can be done.
